Determining how often the pre-filter needs to be changed really depends on the incoming water quality but, usually you can tell it’s time in one of two ways. The first is, there is a water pressure drop throughout your home. If you experience a water pressure drop that usually means that the pre-filter has become plugged with sediment from the incoming water. We most often see this happen in homes supplied by a private well, however, it can happen in homes supplied by municipal water, too. The second way to determine when a pre-filter change is needed is time. If it has been a year or more since your pre-filter has been changed – it’s time for a change.
So, now that we know when to change the pre-filter, now we need to know how to change it.
